If you haven’t signed a contract with an electricity or natural gas provider, you’ll automatically be served by a Regulated Retailer, with monthly rates approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). New residents start with a Regulated Retailer before exploring competitive energy plans that may offer more stability or savings. Service may be supplied through a Rural Electrification Association, Natural Gas Co-op, or AEP’s Mediation Team for rural areas. Note that even if you change providers, the distribution company remains the same in your service area.
